About

Liam is the resident Scientific Writer at the National Institute of Theory and Mathematics in Biology, where he designs comprehensive communication strategies for disseminating scientific research advances to diverse audiences. Liam works closely with both institutional and visiting researchers to generate pieces of writing in various formats, including research reports, grant proposals, technical documents, and public-facing science communication. Prior to his time at NITMB, Liam completed his PhD in Computational Biophysics at the University of Denver, during which he developed and applied quantitative computer vision techniques for bulk analysis of large 4D microscopy data sets. Liam concomitantly served as a 2025-26 Science Communication Intern for the Society of Developmental Biology, and as a dedicated STEM writing consultant in the University of Denver’s Writing center, both of which greatly inform his passion for scientific storytelling. As a proud transgender man, Liam is particularly dedicated to creating inclusive workplaces, and enjoys bringing folks from all backgrounds with him into the joyfulness of science. Outside of STEM, Liam is an arts and crafts lover, and you can regularly find him knitting through seminars and meetings.
